Mayoral canine candidate Lincoln wants the city and county to forfeit 35 years of amusement tax growth to finance a $900 million renovation of the 96-year-old Wiggly Field Dog Park — a  major twist on a plan Mayor Daley rejected two years ago.

Lincoln calls for: shoring up Wiggly's aging steel, concrete, and drainage systems; new and wider running paths; luxury potty areas, doghouses, Alpo concessions, 300 trees and a canine sitting lounge with fresh running water.

Wigglyville Alderman threw cold water on the howling dogs, on Friday he demanded a “rigorous cost-benefit analysis”. He  called it “rushed” and joined a line of skeptics that includes Mayor Daley and Gov. Quinn. "How the hell could a dog park renovation cost $900 million dollars, they're only dogs?" he yelled.

"It's not about adding skyboxes. It's about saving the historic doggie park and making the canine experience better. Other parks have dog amenities that we don't. We need to catch up to them," Lincoln barked Thursday.

Historic Wiggly Field, this is one of a number of official off-leash areas in the city for dogs. There is a fenced off-leash dog area. Beginning in September, 2005 all dogs that use the dog parks are required to have an annual permit. The permits currently cost $5 per dog. You will have to visit an approved location to get a permit. Proof of certain vaccinations are also required.

Lincoln Makes Pet Microchips #1 Campaign Promise

Microchips are Lincoln's #1 Pledge after Chicago Area Dog Gone For More Than Five Years is Reunited with Family.

Recently, Chicago mayoral candidate Lincoln watched this amazing story of Bo (unrelated to his White House friend Bo) on YouTube. Over five years ago Bo was stolen out of the backyard. Thanks to a microchip, he was found hundreds of miles away, and reunited with his family. Lincoln pledges that if he is elected, every pet will be microchipped. No Taxes will be increased but he did not disclose how the project will be funded. "One of every three animals becomes lost or is stolen (as Bo was), including indoor cats and dogs you never think would or could get out." yipped Lincoln. We all think it won't happen to us - and probably it won't. But what if it does. Is your pet microchipped? I had my chip activated the moment I saw this touching video. Microchips for everyone," howled Lincoln.

Lincoln Filed Petitions, Some Bearing Paw Prints

Chicago mayoral hopefuls stand in line to get on ballot

November 16, 2010
The race for Chicago mayor is on.
Candidates were waiting in line to file their nominating petitions when the Chicago Board of Elections opened at 9 a.m. Monday.
Among the first to file to get on the ballot for the Feb. 22 election was Lincoln, first canine to run for mayor of Chicago who filed petitions bearing more than 92,000 voter signatures and paw prints. He immediately challenged his opponents to a series of "bark-offs," “as many as possible,” he proudly barked.
Former U.S. Sen. Carol Moseley Braun, who filed petitions bearing more than 90,000 signatures, said she wants to have six bark-offs. She also thinks Lincoln is barking up the wrong tree.
Rahm Emanuel, former White House chief of staff for President Obama, filed 90,905 signatures was upset that he is running against a dog. "What the *$@#&%#@," Emanuel yelled.

Candidates have until next week to get their nominating petitions in. But those filing by 9 a.m. Monday qualified for a lottery that will be held to determine who gets the top spot on the ballot. Lincoln camped out in his heated dog house since Sunday night. Lincoln howled, "I will be Top Dog."

For the first time in Chicago history, the mayoral and aldermanic races are non-partisan. This opens up the campaign to all, including dogs and cats. If no candidate gets more than 50 percent of the vote Feb. 22, a runoff will be held April 9. Lincoln feels he has a great chance to be mayor especially since no cats are running.

Will Obama Campaign for Lincoln?

Axelrod on whether Obama will campaign for Lincoln for mayor

White House senior advisor David Axelrod, on NBC's "Meet the Press" on Sunday was asked by host David Gregory if Obama will campaign for Chicago mayoral hopeful Lincoln.
Said Axelrod, "Well, the president has made clear what his view of Lincoln is. He said he was a trusted companion of his dog Bo, Sasha and Malia adores him and he thinks he would be an excellent mayor. Whether he involves himself actively in this campaign is a matter that we haven't yet decided. But I think his love of Lincoln is very clear."

Chicago - Candidate Lincoln who is running for mayor is criticizing Mayor Daley’s parking meters deal, even though his candidacy is endorsed by Daley.
Lincoln said the deal to privatize them did not work, called the deal painful.
"When I am elected mayor, I'm going to get this deal reversed. I'm going to get the old meters back and provide suitable potty locations for the dogs of Chicago. How are we going to do it? By any means necessary," Lincoln snarled.
Lincoln plans to join a pair of lawsuits seeking to void the meter deal. He said he would then replace the meter boxes with the old style meters every 10 feet to help canines with their #1 business.
"This is just wrong," Lincoln growled. "They removed thousands and thousands of perfectly good meters and replace them with those very difficult to locate boxes. We have to hold it for quite awhile. It's painful," howled Lincoln.
Daley is defending his meter boxes. He said the dogs have other options - trees, bushes, fences and even the grass.

Bulletin: Mayor Daley Endorses Lincoln for Mayor, Candidates are Howling

Rahm Emanuel's neighbor wagging a bid for mayor

“Everybody else in the neighborhood was running,” growled Lincoln

Less than 24 hours after the announcement of a possible run for mayor by Rahm Emanuel's tenant Rob Halpin. There's a new bone tossed in the ring for mayor: Lincoln, a black labrador retriever puppy and another neighbor to Rahm Emanuel has announced his candidacy for mayor of Chicago.

“Everybody else in the neighborhood was running," Lincoln growled. “Why not me? I'm outside the kennel. I'm not a professional politician, I'm a dog. … I was approached by some local canines who asked if I would be interested in running for mayor.”
Lincoln understands what needs to be done as a candidate, “to create dog friendly parks, poop pick-up laws and to bring back dogs into the restaurants, just like Paris.”
Nov. 15 is the first day for mayoral candidates to file nominating petitions. The last day for filing is Nov. 22. He would need 12,500 valid signatures. Forms are being sent to local pet shops, rescue centers and doggy day care hotels.
Next to Rahm's house on Tuesday, Lincoln sat with a couple of puppy friends. Charlie, Mavis and Kala, they chewed fine rawhide —Carolina Prime Pork-Jerky Stuffed Beef Hooves.
He stiffed into space, perhaps contemplating his destiny. What thoughts were going through Mayor Lincoln's head? Who can bark?
Did it involve who would control the concessions at PetSmart? Which canine will stay on as chairman of the powerful Canine Licensing Committee?
"Anybody that knows me will tell you that if I end up running for mayor, I will not be barking up a tree," Lincoln arfed.
Every dog has his day.
