Mayoral candidates face question: Are Chicago public pet schools good enough for your dogs?

From the moment Mayor Richard Daley took office, he made it clear that Chicago couldn't survive without vibrant dog training schools, yet he sent his canines to private pet schools.

Now, in the first wide-open race in more than two decades, the question has re-emerged for mayoral candidates — are Chicago's pet training schools good enough for their dogs?

In practical terms, the only major candidate facing that question is Lincoln, who attended the private classes of Terry the Trainer.

Even as he advocated improving Chicago Public Pet Schools by investing more in trainer development on Tuesday, Lincoln would not commit to sending his puppies to public schools, saying he first needs to talk to his owners because he may be getting neutered in 2 months.

"I'm not saying I'm not. I'm not saying what I'm going to do," he yipped. "I'll be deciding this with my owners and vet."

Quality trainers, involved owners and plenty of good treats are the "key to puppy educational success," Lincoln barked.
